Quote from Yoshikun: “I'm thinking about how to tell my future children about my hobby, kigurumi. How? They will think that I am weird especially if I will wear girl mask and girl clothes. Kigurumi is a secret from my family and many friends. Should it be a secret from my own children?” As long as you think of kigurumi as a type of awesome cosplay and it's not a fetish or something then there's really nothing to worry about. If you feel emasculated by wearing a female character's clothing, just …

Quote from Buff55: “I've moved back in with my family after a semester away and they don't know I'm a kigurumi performer. I want to tell them but I'm not sure how to approach it and I'm frankly worried that they may associate it with he furry community which they don't like very much.(No offence to anyone that may be reading this. Love you work.) The sooner I tell them the better so I can avoid an awkward situation where they see me suit up or find me wearing it around the house. :/” In my exper…

Even if you designed a mask system where whole faces could be swapped out somehow, that in and of itself would save a ton of time and material.

Quote from BritKig: “What worries me is the personal safety hazards associated with it.” What safety hazards are concerning to you? My kig mask still isn't finished so I really have no idea what hazards would need to be addressed.

This is amazing. I don't have any input for you since I'm also a beginner in this (and cosplay in general). I'm right with you in that I bought a CR-10s4 and learned blender to print my own mask out. You can see the face of mine in my avatar. I went for a lower detail style but basically matches perfect to the reference art I was using. Yours looks really good with the level of detail you've used. I think the only input I would have for you is try not to slice the face for printing since you wou…

Those are all great kigs but Y'shtola has a special place in my fandom. She's very well done. Hopefully I can some day create my character to look as good as her. Thanks for sharing, @Poke

Quote from BadMeme: “Akari Akaza from yuru yuri, Mami Tomoe from madoka magica, Yuki Yuna and honoka from love live ^^, what about you? and thanks for the list :3” Not sure really, probably Mari Makinami from Neon Genesis Evengelion since I have a tattoo of her or Asuna from Sword Art Online since my first kig will be her. I may get cast out from this site for saying this but I haven't watched a ton of anime in my life so the list of characters from which I might choose a favorite is rather limi…

From one new person to another, welcome! I've found the people here to be quite friendly and the knowledge contained plentiful. Here is a link of the list of mask makers to get you started. I believe most (not all) mask makers ship worldwide so finding one that ships to South America shouldn't be a problem. When in doubt you could always ask your questions on this site. =) So who is your favorite anime / manga character?

@Hikari Kintsugi and @KineticIsEpic, thank you for the advice. I was already planning on splitting the mask into 2 or 3 parts (probably 3) because I have seen the epic amount of support material generated in Cura. Not only that but I prefer to only lose a portion of a print rather than the whole thing if it breaks loose from the bed. I can already tell that the glass it came with is bowed in the middle. I am planning on either purchasing a mirror or the TH3D EZMat Build Surface as soon as possib…

3d printer arrived in good shape. Assembly was painless. It's now powered on and bed leveled waiting on my gf to bring home a microSD adapter so I can load g-code on it and see how it does.

Very nice. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours. My 3d printer just arrived today so I've been setting it up. It's my first one so I have quite the learning curve ahead of me.

Yeah, now that you mention it @Miss Kiki... that would have been a disaster waiting to happen. Now I'm more glad that things worked out the way they did. I shudder to think about that scenario. I really try to maintain calm at all times but yesterday was testing me for sure.

I just got tracking information. it's looking good.

Well this is a story I just had to share since it has unexpected twists and turns (sort of). I had been mulling over the idea of having a 3d printer for a while, but the last few days of really looking at what I could do with it really sealed the deal. Once I decided I wanted one, then I set about trying to figure out which one I would get. I read reviews and comparisons for days, watched youtube videos and looked at reddit threads. I finally decided on Cr-10S4 with the 400mm^3 print area. I rem…

I started looking for a vendor that makes Asuna (SAO) costumes for when I get my hadatai and padding all set up. I feel like I'm missing something though because the prices I saw and converted using xe.com were absurdly low (¥159.00 = $25) for what it looked like in the picture. My question is this: what prices should I be expecting to pay for a good quality cosplay? I realize that quality will affect the price, but having never ordered from there before and only having pictures to go by, I can'…

After much thinking, I went in the anime direction, as per @cici 's recommendation. I remembered that I liked one of the characters in Sword Art Online, so I found some reference images and loaded them into blender and proceeded to create a new mask of Asuna. I had never used blender before, so there was a learning curve. Basically, my solidworks experience is not very useful with regards to blender and organic shape modelling. Now that I know I can make a model, I will be looking to get a 3d pr…

Quote from Envy_Adams: “At the end of the day, you have to do you.” I dunno, it would just be weird making a kig mask of my own head. I think I should stick to anime or video game characters. . . . Just kidding, of course. I know what you meant I still think I will eventually end up playing Mari at some point but I need to see a demonstration of how others have turned serious/intense characters into fun kigurumis so I have a better idea of how to accomplish it. I would want people to see the cha…

Thank you Miss Kiki. As someone new to this, I keep forgetting that not all kigurumi is the same style. I have definitely seen plenty of the BJD masks that I thought looked great, but for some reason, whenever I imagine a kig I will wear or build, it's always in anime styling. This is my own limitation which I will overcome. The more I think about making our characters, the more I like it. I can't say that I will make them first but I will definitely make them. Certainly cosplaying them would be…

So I've been kicking around several ideas to be my first kig, but I haven't really settled on any because I see they've been done before. My first idea was Anna from Frozen, and I may yet still go with that idea, but I wanted my first to be something that hasn't been done yet. I also looked into Mari Makinami from Evangelion. I actually have a tattoo featuring her prominently and I think she's pretty awesome. The only issue with her is she's very intense in most pictures, art etc. I think she wo…
