Quote from Amelisia: “Should I attempt at creating my own character since so far I don't feel like impersonating any anime / video game ones?” There is no right or wrong, so long as it's true to you. Quote from Amelisia: “Is it normal that I feel so scared to spend money on something I am unsure I will like?” I think you'll find its the quantity of the investment, and expect it to be a long term commitment. I don't think so; I think it's just your body's coping mechanisms.

Quote from bluesuepink: “ok,thanks for that, how do i answer a request as i'm new to all this” If you want to to keep communication just between yourself and one other, use conversations. The quickest way to start a private conversation is to click/tap the person's name to view their profile then the envelope icon.

Rather than appearance, consider factoring in a chracter's personality. I chose my character, Irina Shidou of Highschool DxD (since season 2, or NeW), based on her portrayed personality in comparison to my own (well, on average); I like to tease and throw a joke once in a while, but I mean well.

Here's what I would say (though I think I should have simply used the straightforward word cosplay as really it is appropriate to forms). Quote from BritKig: “At the end of the day, kigurumi is a pastime. If someone criticises, you can just reply with: "Would you like it if I made a fuss about what you do with your spare time?"” In hindsight, if someone can't take criticism of what they enjoy doing, they have no right to do so to others.

Quote from Yoshikun: “I'm thinking about how to tell my future children about my hobby, kigurumi. How? They will think that I am weird especially if I will wear girl mask and girl clothes. Kigurumi is a secret from my family and many friends. Should it be a secret from my own children?” It's one of those questions where there is no reliable answer, and fueled even further due to the fear of the response one might get. If it helps in any way, I unveiled Kig Irina to my family just before my final…

Quote from AutumnDawn: “What safety hazards are concerning to you? My kig mask still isn't finished so I really have no idea what hazards would need to be addressed.” For some, fatigue, short-of-breath, excessive body heat buildup... just to name three things. I think the risks are at the peak when asleep. Also, I am not speaking about any mask in particular, more in principle. On the whole, I think @Senkans idea of 3 days of 8 hours each would be more practical.

What worries me is the personal safety hazards associated with it. Is the 24hr challenge a formality/tradition or just a developing (social media) trend?

The longest I have done to date, without a rest break is 6 hours, set back in March of 2018 at my first convention in-kig.

Let's hope that 2019 will be better for us all; 2018 certainly had its rough edges.

Thickness is more based on the surrounding temperature and your body's own tolerance. If where you live it is extremely cold, a thicker suit will do more justice. The most common hadatai configuration is usually thin (less than 1mm) with attached feet and gloves as well as a full-face opening in the hood. As for zippers, usually it's a single rear zipper, but tailorers and resellers offer the extra zipper options, including but not limited to crotch zips.
