Well, limiting and isolating that's for sure. Having no social media... fewer means to showcase yourself.

There's also the issue that search engines also have changed a lot in favor of social media, it's really hard to find someone's private homepage or blog nowadays compared to 10+ years ago, so it would become pretty boring after a while (I have a private homepage for work, and it doesn't show up at all searching my name).

You don't need to show me this, I'm computer scientist next to my translator work. That page is outdated information and by no means accurate to Google's modern indexing, and my site is submitted via their Search Console to begin with, still doesn't make a difference despite the URL being literally my name. Google judges the search engine ranking based on the frequency of changes to the sourcecode, you can't beat social media regarding that with a private homepage as you would need to update it every other minute for the ranking to be equally as high, which is also why the search results for a lot of things are dominated by Pinterest reposts instead of the original sources.

Something to consider is joining discord. There's a masking discord that I've seen few on here frequent as well as a kig discord (I'm not in it so don't know the name).
